Dodie Allen...
has announced her candidacy for election to the  North Carolina House of Representatives District 119 seat, presently held by Democrat Phil Haire. District 119 includes the Jackson and Swain counties, as well as parts of Macon and Haywood counties.

Dodie Allen is a twenty-five year resident of Western North Carolina where she is a well-known business woman and small business owner of Dodie's Auction in downtown Sylva. Early in her professional career she benefited from a twenty-eight year tenure with AT&T's Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph where she became convinced of the importance of commun-ications. She learned that successful service for any elected person is grounded in communication between officials and the citizens they serve. Similarly her pioneering career as the first female auctioneer in Western North Carolina afforded her a unique combination of life-learning experiences and knowledge well-suited to communicating with and serving others.

Allen's resume' includes a long list of community service projects, local and national committee positions and volunteerism serving in many Western North Carolina communities.  Her activities in politics began in 1962 as a member of the Southern Democrat Faction to support Senator Barry Goldwater's Presidential campaign and the Young Americans for Freedom; thus she is a republican by choice.  She has served as a volunteer and as a fund raiser for various private and public organizations covering diverse fields including the Literacy Council for Haywood County, Humane Society of Macon County, Kids Place of Macon County, The Jackson County Community Foundation, HAWA of  Haywood County, Catman2 of Jackson County.  She was a Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) serving at Western Carolina University developing leadership for young people in VISTA's leading and learning through service program...  She is an annual fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, President of the Sylva Lions Club and has held the chairmanship of the Jackson County Republican Organization for three terms.

Well known for her extraordinary enthusiasm and powerhouse personality, Allen comprehends the effect of government on individuals' every day life and intends that her government service will produce a positive result for all individuals in Western North Carolina.
